Stop judging, so that you won't be judged. 2For with the judgment you use, you will be judged. And with the measure you use, you will be measured. 3“Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when the beam is in your own eye? 5You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” 6“Never give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls before pigs. Otherwise, they will trample them with their feet and then turn around and attack you.” Matt. 7:1-6 (ISV)
There are three reasons why we should not judge:
“My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.” 1 Cor. 4:4 (NIV)
“I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you, something so evil that even the pagans don’t do it. I am told that you have a man in your church who is living in sin with his father’s wife. And you are so proud of yourselves! Why aren’t you mourning in sorrow and shame? And why haven’t you removed this man from your fellowship?” 1 Cor. 5:1-2 (NLT)
There are two keys to church discipline:
1. You can only hold a professing Christian to this Christian standard.
2. Our attitude towards others is to encourage righteous behavior in love. |
